Connecting Areas

The interconnecting circles of our logo reminds us of the various entities that work together to create the built environment, each contributing a unique yet complementary role to provide spaces that are functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing. The fields of Architecture, Engineering, Design, and Construction work in harmony to create environments that serve practical needs while enhancing the way we experience and interact with the world around us.

Universal Design

When we work with students — future architects, engineers, and designers — one of our goals is to help them truly see the people they are designing for. This new video highlights why understanding the lived experiences of all users is essential, not only for those creating the built environment, but for each of us as we move through the spaces where we live, work, and play.

A heartfelt thank-you to the Hardesty Family Foundation for their support and to Sydney Alison and Kirkpatrick & Kinslow Productions for bringing the vision to life. We’re excited for more videos in this series coming in 2026!

Architecture

An architect is a professional who designs buildings and produces the drawings and documents to show how to build them. Architects oversee the project through designing and construction. They are responsible for designs that insure the safety of everyone who uses the building.

It takes several types of engineers to create a safe built environment. Civil Engineers, Structural Engineers, and MEP Engineers (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) work in their specialized areas to design, analyze, and ensure the stability and safety of the structures.

Engineering

Interior Design

Interior design, also referred to as interior architecture, is the professional practice of designing interior spaces that meet the needs of clients. Designers focus on spatial layout, aesthetics, and inclusivity while prioritizing safety, health, and accessibility for all.

Construction

Construction is the process of creating structures and infrastructure that define our environment. Skilled workers bring the designs and plans from architects and engineers to life, with each professional contributing their specialized expertise to the project.
